Q. Is St. Thomas More Academy part of the Lansing Diocese?

A. STMA is an independent Catholic school (we are not attached to a parish); we are recognized and approved by the Diocese of Lansing and are in the official Catholic Directory.  We encourage each STMA family to be involved in their local parish.

Q. Is St. Thomas More Academy an accredited school?

A. Since its founding in 1989, the administration of STMA has chosen not to seek accreditation of our academic programs by any state agency or private accrediting body since:

· In order to earn accreditation, private accrediting agencies often require that academic programs include topics and positions that contradict Catholic teaching.

· Our graduates historically have been continually accepted to major universities and colleges in Michigan, throughout the United States, and abroad.

· We benchmark our students' progress through standardized testing in order to maintain high academic standards.

*Check out our Graduation Requirements page for a list of schools attended by STMA grads!*

Q. How many students are enrolled at STMA?

A. STMA currently enrolls 110 students in grades K-12.

Q. When does the school year begin and end?

A. STMA starts school on the Wednesday after Labor Day and ends on the Friday before Memorial Day.

Q. How long is the school day?

A. Our school day begins with Mass at 8:50 a.m.* and ends at 2:45 p.m. *(attendance in classroom at 8:45a.m.)

Q. Isn’t that a short day? How do you get all of the required material covered in such a short time?

A. STMA offers a strong core curriculum that includes the subjects necessary to prepare our students for higher learning. We do not offer study hall periods or extracurricular subjects within the school day. We, therefore, are able to maximize the instructional time in our classrooms.

Q. Do you offer sports?

A. STMA offers sports for students in grades five through twelve. We are a part of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) and compete as a Class D school. We offer boys and girls basketball and soccer, and girls volleyball. We compete against other Class D schools in the area.
